DoorDash to acquire its UK rival Deliveroo for around $3.86 billion

US meal delivery firm DoorDash is all set to acquire its UK rival Deliveroo as both companies announced today. The deal between the companies has settled for about £2.9 billion (around $3.86 billion). This acquisition will help DoorDash expand into 9 new markets in Europe where Deliveroo primarily operates, giving competition to companies like Just Eat and Uber Eats.
As per the latest confirmed acquisition offer, DoorDash will pay Deliveroo shareholders 180 pence per share, which represents a premium of 44% over the latter’s share price on 4th April. DoorDash has mentioned that it would not increase its offer but reserved the right to do so if a third party emerged with a competing offer for Deliveroo.
DoorDash and Deliveroo have complementary geographic operations, and the Enlarged Group will have a global presence in over 40 countries, serving approximately 50 million monthly active users. In 2024, the two companies together generated a total Gross Order Value of approximately $90 billion. It is said that the Enlarged Group’s expanded geographic footprint, enhanced local and regional institutional knowledge, and stronger operational capabilities will help strengthen Deliveroo’s positioning in its key geographies in which DoorDash does not operate.
Back in March 2025, Deliveroo sold its Hong Kong business to Delivery Hero, citing intense competition, while the company had also exited from Australia in 2022, where it faced similar competitive pressures.
